COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS FOR AFGHAN REFUGEE WOMEN
Bridge of Hope
AWAS is excited to announce our very first funded project, made possible through a generous grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for AWAS, enabling us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Afghan women as they rebuild their lives in Scotland.
Bridge of Hope: Afghan Women Supporting Afghan Women is a 12-month peer mentoring programme, designed to empower and support 40 Afghan refugee women living in Glasgow. Led by trained Afghan peer mentors, the programme will deliver a series of engaging workshops that equip participants with practical knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to navigate life in Scotland.
Our aim is to provide participants with a better understanding of local services, strengthen their community connections, develop their skills, and improve their wellbeing. Crucially, they will become part of a supportive network of women who understand their experiences and are committed to helping one another thrive. By gaining hands-on experience in community building, as well as participation, we hope that these women will also leave with the ability to form fruitful and stable social connections.
As our flagship project, we wanted to ensure that Bridge of Hope aligns firmly with the charity’s values of support, empowerment, and education. We believe that when women are provided with the right knowledge and opportunities, they become better equipped to take control of their futures and the futures of their families, allowing them to make a lasting positive impact within their communities. With encouragement, all women are capable of achieving this with confidence and strength.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for making this project possible. Their support has enabled us to create lasting opportunities for our participants and allowed us to take steps on the path towards building robust communities for Afghan women living in Scotland.
Our full programme of workshops will be announced soon and we look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you. Please check back for updates and join us as we build hope, resilience, and exciting futures together.
